The Stonemill Design Center Presents Inaugural White Box Challenge

Inspired by the hit HGTV concept, The Stonemill Design Center challenges eight OC-based designers to transform a “white box” studio into a creative vignette inspired by one signature textile, tile, accessory or furniture piece within 24 hours

COSTA MESA, Calif., April 25, 2013 — The Stonemill Design Center will celebrate innovation by producing an Orange County-based White Box Challenge in collaboration with the Orange County Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and Riviera Magazine. Eight local interior design professionals and teams will be given 24 hours to convert white-box spaces at The Stonemill Design Center into vignettes inspired by sponsored showrooms or brands. The vignettes will be unveiled at an exclusive cocktail party on June 5, 2013 for invited guests, industry professionals and other design luminaries.

“The Stonemill Design Center has served as a focal point of the Orange County interior design community since 1981, and once again, we’ve fashioned a one-of-a-kind opportunity to showcase local talent,” said Cathryn DeFazio, general manager, The Stonemill Design Center. “We’re proud of our tradition of elevating the design profession while shining the spotlight on some of the most innovative designs and designers defining Orange County interiors.”

The Stonemill Design Center collaborated with the local chapter of the ASID to identify eight design firms fierce enough to rise to the White Box Challenge: Alix Flamm Designs, Castle Design Studios, Ferm Design Concepts, Hilary Nicholas Interiors,  Meghan Yang Interior Design, Raad Ghantous & Associates, Sérendipité and Urbanism.

Each design team will be paired with a featured showroom brand from The Stonemill Design Center community, giving designers the challenge to create memorable vignettes based on one signature piece. The vignette sponsors are Associated Building Supply, Baccarat, Costentino, Creative Window Designs, Designers Resource Collection, Harsey & Harsey, Kenneth McDonald Designs and Lightopia.

The gallery of design will serve as the backdrop to the “Design & Desserts” special event, which will be presented by Riviera, a Modern Luxury publication, on June 6, 2013, at The Stonemill Design Center. At this open-to-the-public event, premier OC-based bakers will be challenged to create an event-specific dessert, inspired by the designers’ vignettes. “Design & Desserts” attendees will have the opportunity to vote for the winner of The Stonemill Design Center White Box Challenge 2013, who will be announced at the end of the month.
