With the eyes of the Orange County design community turned South towards the 2012 Phillarmonic House of Design in Laguna Beach, we thought it would be fun to profile one of the members of The Stonemill Design Center’s community who was involved in this “must see” project!
Chris Kittrell with Kittrell & Associates was the force behind the expansive master suite, which feels more like a spa than anything else! (then again, we are pretty sure that was the plan all along!). Now, while we can’t show you the “Official” photos of the space, (the media sponsor, California Homes Magazine, will be publishing them soon enough), we can give you a taste of the space! Better yet, you can always go visit the home before May 20th!
“This is my 5th experience working with the Philharmonic Society on their Design Houses, and I find it quite rewarding. This year I was invited to participate again, and I selected the Master Bedroom and bath, a large suite, as my space.
The room is large, 21 X 21 feet in the main sleeping area, and then has two large hallways leading into it. The bedroom is hexagonal in shape, and was challenging for that reason as well as the fact that it had 5 windows and 2 doors, all which help appreciate the view, but there was no “bed wall”. We “floated” the bed in the center of the room to allow for maximum emphasis on the view and the infinity pool just outside. Through careful space planning, we created small, intimate and functional seating areas. We placed one counter height console and counter stools with direct view of the ocean, a smaller scaled pair of sitting chairs in front of the fire place, and “his and her” lounge chairs in the entry hallway. The color palette for this expansive master bedroom suite was inspired by the grey in the ocean and the gold in the sunsets. Being a long standing customer of The Stonemill Design Center, the bedding features Pindler and Pindler fabric on the coverlet, while the the drapery fabric is from the Fabricut. We also drew upon Kenneth McDonald Designs for the wallpaper in the space.”
